Jagsal is a district of the town of Schlieben in the Elbe-Elster district in southern Brandenburg . It is located about five kilometers south of the city center and covers an area of ​​802.8 hectares.

The street village was first mentioned in a document in 1375 as a Jagesel .

During the wars of liberation in August 1813 the so-called French murder took place in the Jagsal corridors. On the night of August 19-20, Cossacks murdered 61 French, Bavarian and Italian prisoners of war suffering from typhus using sabers and lance stabs and then robbed them.

Jagsal has been part of the town of Schlieben since November 1st, 2001.

Culture and sights

The mill pond in Jagsal bears witness to a long history of mills. Until 1949 there was a watermill in Jagsal, the existence of which can be traced back to 1587. There is also a war memorial in Jagsal in the form of a stele in honor of the local residents who fell in World War I.
