Jain (singer)
Jain [dʒeɪn] (born February 7, 1992 in Toulouse ; actually Jeanne Louise Galice ) is a French pop singer .
Career
Jain's father works in the oil industry, so she spent much of her youth abroad. When she was nine, she moved with her family from southwest France to Dubai, where she learned to play tabla . From the age of 13 she grew up in the Congo, where she drew a lot of musical experiences and influences. She produced the song Come , which she wrote when she was 16, and posted it on MySpace . She found a manager through the Internet and was discovered by Yodelice , who promoted her and produced her music. In July 2015, their first EP Hope was released and the title track and the song Come made it into the top 200 of the French charts.
Jain's first album, Zanaka , was released on November 6, 2015. At first it was only hesitantly successful, then the song Come developed into an internet hit and in February 2016 reached number one in the French and number five in the Belgian single charts . The album was also placed in Belgium and Switzerland and rose to the top 10 in France. There it was awarded a gold record for 50,000 copies sold and nominated for a Victoire in the Album Revelation category. She had a second hit single with the song Makeba , which was used in advertising by the mobile operator Sosh and also by the Levis brand.
At the beginning of 2017, Jain was named Artist of the Year and Makeba was named Video Clip of the Year at the Victoires .
The video clips for her songs contain optical gimmicks in the style of MC Escher or Surrealism , in which the lyrics appear implemented. Her singing voice seems very flexible between different English metro folks and various accents.
