Jacob "Jake" Matthews (born February 11, 1992 in Missouri City , Texas , United States ) is an American football player on the offensive tackle position . He plays for the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL .

High school and college

Matthews grew up in Missouri City and attended high school here. From 2012 he went to Texas A&M University in College Station , Texas . Here he played as a right tackle in his first three years and as a left tackle in his final year.

NFL

Matthews was selected by the Atlanta Falcons as the sixth player ever in the 2014 NFL Draft . In his first season he became a regular player for the team. In his second and third seasons he was on the field in all 16 games. He reached the Super Bowl LI with the Falcons , which was lost to the New England Patriots at 28:34 .

Two years later he was elected to the Pro Bowl for the first time .

Private

Matthews comes from an American football family: his brother Kevin Matthews , his father Bruce Matthews , his uncle Clay Matthews Jr. and his two cousins Clay Matthews III and Casey Matthews all played in the NFL .
