Jakob Baumann (politician)

Jakob Baumann (born May 21, 1881 in Schafisheim ; † August 23, 1942 there ; entitled to live in Schafisheim) was a Swiss politician ( BGB ) and farmer . From 1919 until his death he represented the canton of Aargau in the National Council .

biography

The son of the farmer of the same name completed the agricultural school in Brugg , followed by a « Welschlandjahr ». He took over his father's farm in Schafisheim, which also included an inn. In 1909 he became a member of the Aargau Grand Council , to which he belonged continuously until his death. In 1931/32 he was President of the Grand Council. Baumann was initially a member of the FDP , but was one of the founding members of the Aargauer BGB in 1919, which he chaired until 1934.

Baumann was also elected to the National Council in 1919 , as one of the very first BGB representatives. In parliament he was a member of the business audit commission, the state accounting commission and the pardon commission. His main focus was on agricultural policy . From 1930 to 1936 he was editor of the newspaper Freie Schweizer Presse .

In addition to politics, Baumann exercised several other activities. He was president of the agricultural cooperative Schafisheim, board member of Hypothekarbank Lenzburg and Aargauische Elektrizitätswerke as well as board member and from 1920 to 1927 president of the Aargau Fleckvieh cooperatives . From 1933 he was on the executive committee of the Swiss Farmers' Association .
