Jakob Egger

Jakob Egger (born May 7, 1821 in Aarwangen ; † March 12, 1904 there ) was a Swiss educator and school politician.

Short biography

Jakob Egger was born in Aarwangen in the canton of Bern in 1821 . He completed his education as a teacher in Hofwil , Yverdon and Ludwigsburg . He became a teacher at the secondary school in Aarberg in 1846 and at the seminar in Münchenbuchsee in 1852. From 1856 to 1895 he was primary school inspector of the canton of Bern and involved in the reform of the school system there, which he described in the 1883 book Zur Neue Schulreform im Kanton Bern .

He was the author of a methodology on arithmetic instruction (1858), a history of primary schooling in the canton of Bern (1879) and apologetic writings in the spirit of Pietism such as The Creation of the World in the Light of the Document of Revelation and Modern Natural Research: A Contribution to Mutual Understanding (1872 ). He also wrote the book Das Armen- und Landsassenwesen in 1856 : An attempt at a historical-pragmatic representation of poor conditions in the Canton of Bern
