Jacob Joseph Adam

Jakob Joseph Adam (born February 12, 1828 in Allschwil , † January 21, 1888 in Basel ) was a Swiss politician.

Life

Jakob Joseph Adam was born as the son of the farmer, Rössli innkeeper and government councilor Jakob Adam from Basel . He attended the schools in Therwil and Basel and trained as a geometer and engineer . As such, he worked for the Centralbahn on the Basel – Olten line , among others .

From 1848 to 1854 and from 1863 to 1867 he was the Basel district . From 1857 to 1859, from 1860 to 1863 and from 1867 to 1873 he was a councilor and headed the building and military management. From 1863 to 1868 he worked as a free-spirited National Councilor in federal politics.

Adam was colonel of the artillery , board member of the Basellandschaftliche Hypothekenbank and the Centralbahn. He was a representative of the so-called party of order, opponent of the mandatory referendum and the Democratic Movement of Christoph Rolles . He was a culture fighter and member of the board of the Christian Catholic parish in Basel.
