Jakob Müller (born November 21, 1842 in St. Gallen ; † December 2, 1901 , reformed , initially entitled to live in Zihlschlacht-Sitterdorf , since 1859 in St. Gallen) was a Swiss politician (FDP) .

biography

Jakob Müller was born in St. Gallen on November 21, 1842 as the son of the roofer Johann Jacob Müller and Anna Barbara, née Züllig. Müller completed a law degree in Zurich and Heidelberg . As a result, Müller worked as a lawyer . In addition, he was a member of the board of directors of the United Swiss Railways from 1884 to 1901 .

Jakob Müller married Sophie in 1866, the daughter of the factor and host Kaspar Laurenz Gonzenbach. He died on December 2nd, 1901, just after he was 59 years old in St. Gallen.

Political career

As a member of the Liberal Party, he served as a St. Gallen councilor from 1873 to 1901 , and from 1881 as a councilor . In addition, he acted as district court president between 1873 and 1881. At the cantonal level, Müller was a member of the St. Gallen Cantonal Council from 1882 to 1901 , which he chaired in 1887, 1890 and 1895. At the federal level he was represented in the National Council between 1886 and 1887 .

In his position as mayor, Jakob Müller played a part in the rapid development of St. Gallen into a flourishing embroidery city.
