Pro7 Sex Report 2008

Pastötter became known to a broader section of the population through the " Pro7 Sex Report 2008 ", which he scientifically directed. The underlying study was the largest sex science survey in Germany to date , in which over 55,000 men and women aged 14 and over took part via the Internet and answered 230 questions. In addition to general questions such as the beginning of puberty and the previous number of sexual partners , these were questions about one's own body, sexual desire and self-satisfaction , the connection between one's own sexuality and experiences of power and violence , health aspects of sexuality, pornography , Prostitution and the Internet , as well as sexuality-related assessment questions.

By October 2010, around 60 questions about age and gender were evaluated, which brought new findings to light: In Germany, for example, a surprisingly high number of men and women consider themselves bisexual and there was a clear connection between the consumption of pornography and satisfaction be determined with one's own physical appearance. Follow-up financing is currently missing.

After completing the survey, Pastötter regretted the lack of depth of the study and criticized the public media, which did not really want to take on the topic despite the educational mandate and high fee income.

Pastötter criticized Germany's handling of pornography several times, which is a legitimate “sexual fairy tale for adults”, but has long since taken on the function of an educational and sexual lead medium for children and young people. In this context, he spoke of the fact that it sometimes appeared as if the so-called sexual revolution had freed less sexuality than, above all, its commercially exploitable form, pornography. He also criticizes the lack of sex education teachers at all German universities , which has actually been prescribed by law in Germany since the 1970s.

He also deals with cultural and gender-specific differences in sexuality. He is the supervisor of the country chapters on Botswana , Bulgaria , Denmark , Germany, Switzerland and Vietnam for the International Encyclopedia of Sexuality , of which he is Associate Editor. He also oversees the academic book reviews for Sexuality and Culture , an interdisciplinary quarterly.
