Jakob Rappel

Jakob Rappel (born July 27, 1877 in Schwaz ; † April 16, 1942 there ) was an Austrian goldsmith .

Life

Jakob Rappel was the son of the Bavarian goldsmith Jakob Philipp Rappel (1842–1923), who had founded a gold and silversmith's workshop for Christian art in Schwaz in 1875. In 1900 Rappel became the k. u. k. Court goldsmith appointed. With his workshop he created metalwork such as tabernacles , monstrances , candlesticks and other things for churches at home and abroad, but also works for private clients, including the heir to the throne Archduke Franz Ferdinand . His work was initially in the neo-Gothic style, later he turned to the Secession and the New Objectivity .

Rappel also made an outstanding contribution to trade and art in Schwaz. In 1931 he founded the Schwazer Heimatmuseum, which he also supported financially, and was chairman of the Tyrolean Heimatschutzverein. For many years he was director of the Sparkasse Schwaz .
