Jakob Schönenberger
Jakob Schönenberger (born October 2, 1931 in Kirchberg ; † August 1, 2018 ; resident in Kirchberg) was a Swiss politician ( CVP ).
Life
After graduating from the collegiate school in Einsiedeln monastery, Schönenberger studied law at the University of Freiburg . In 1959 he was admitted to the bar in St. Gallen . In 1960 he received his dissertation “st. Gallic transfer tax "in Freiburg for Dr. iur. PhD . From 1964 to 1974 he was Vice President of the Alttoggenburg District Court. From 1966 to 1976 he was a member of the Tax Appeal Commission and the Insurance Court of the Canton of St. Gallen. Since 1983 he has been a member of the Customs Expert Commission. From 1977 he worked as a freelance lawyer in Wil .
From 1961 to 1976 Schoenberger was mayor in Kirchberg and 1968-1980 for the CVP in St. Gallen cantonal parliament . From 1979 to 1991 he was a member of the Council of States . As a colonel , he was President of Divisional Court 7. Among other things, he advocated financial issues. Among other things, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Spar- und Leihkasse Kirchberg from 1964 to 1972 as well as Vice-President from 1972 to 1976 and President of the Banking Commission of St. Galler Kantonalbank from 1976 to 1999. From 1978 to 1996 he was President of the Association of the Swiss Clothing Industry, from 1985 to 1999 a member of the Bank Council of the Swiss National Bank , which he chaired from 1993 to 1999, and from 1985 to 2000 a member of the Board of Directors of the Helvetia insurance company . From 1996 to 2000 he was a member of the Board of Directors of Helvetia Patria Holding.
From 1961 Schönenberger was born with Josy. Bichler married. There were four children from the marriage, including Andrea Gmür-Schönenberger , who also became a CVP politician, national councilor and later a councilor of states. He had been a member of the AKV Alemannia of the Catholic Swiss Student Association (SchwStV) at the University of Friborg since his studies .
