Live and act

Türk came from Burgau in Bavarian Swabia and was the son of a teacher. Initially chaplain in St. Ulrich zu Augsburg , he became court priest at the Hofkirche Fürstenfeld in 1860 , in 1864 chaplain at the court and collegiate monastery of St. Cajetan in Munich, in 1867 clergyman and court chaplain of the royal family. At first the priest worked mainly as confessor of King Ludwig II , later his uncle, Prince Regent Luitpold, also took over in this office, which he held until his death. In 1871, Türk was awarded the Knight's Cross 1st Class of the Order of Merit of St. Michael . In 1885 he received the Knight's Cross from the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown and was raised to the personal nobility. The clergyman was one of the Prince Regent's closest friends.

From 1883 Jakob von Türk was dean, from 1890 infuled provost of St. Cajetan. Due to the infulation he was allowed to wear an honorary bishop's miter on solemn occasions , but not lead a staff. The prelate also acted as the ceremonial officer of the House Knight Order of St. George and taught for 27 years as a Catholic religious teacher in the Bavarian Cadet Corps .

Two of his funeral speeches, one for King Ludwig II and the other for his mother, Queen Marie , have appeared in print.

It is u. a. reports that Prince Regent Luitpold always had something of his hunt brought to him as a token of special appreciation. Die Stadt Gottes , November issue 1912, (page 138 of the 1913 volume) records in a short obituary with a picture that Provost Turk was a “great benefactor of the poor” .

Jakob von Türk was considered to be the main representative of the so-called reform Catholicism of the Munich court clergy in the second half of the 19th century.

He carried the papal honorary title of Apostolic Protonotary ; in his home town of Burgau he was made an honorary citizen and there is the "Ritter-von-Türk-Straße".

The contemporary writer Erika von Watzdorf-Bachoff (1878–1963), who did not belong to the Catholic Church, writes about Jakob von Türk in her memoirs:

Provost von Türk, the regent's house chaplain and the same age with him, in white curly hair, a beautiful priestly old man, once sat next to me at a court festival, and when I didn't know about a Catholic detail he was talking about, he said with a smile : 'Oh yes! You don't let us work. ' "
