Christophe Schmidt

Christophe Schmidt (born June 15, 1983 in Graefelfing ) is a German snowboarder who mainly competes in the halfpipe but also big air discipline .

Christophe Schmidt is a professional snowboarder. He starts for SC Miesbach and has been a member of Germany's national snowboard team since 2004. He lives in Innsbruck , previously in Schliersee , and trains mainly on the Brecherspitz . His hometown club is SC Miesbach . He started out as an alpine skier, but then switched to snowboarding. In his first season he won the title of German Junior Champion. From 1999 to 2003 he competed annually in the halfpipe competitions at the Junior World Championships. In 1999 he was in the Alpe di Siusi and was 24th in Berchtesgaden, 19th in 2000 , sixth in 2001 on the Nassfeld near Hermagor , fourth in 2002 in Rovaniemi and finally won the title in Prato Nevoso in 2003 .

In the men's competition, Schmidt first started in a snowboard continental cup race in Sudelfeld in 1998 and finished eighth. Two years later, he competed in his first World Cup race in Berchtesgaden, in which he was 23rd and immediately won World Cup points. Only days later, he achieved a podium finish in third place in a European Cup race in the same place. A little later, Schmidt came eighth in the World Cup race in Livigno for the first time in the top ten. In the following years he mostly placed himself in the World Cup points and often reached the top ten places. The first international men's championship was the 2003 World Championships in Kreischberg , where Schmidt was 16th in the halfpipe and 22nd in the big air competition. Two years later he narrowly missed winning a medal at the World Championships in Whistler when he finished fifth. Highlight of the career until then were 2006 Olympic Winter Games of Turin . At the competitions in Bardonecchia , Schmidt was eighth in the halfpipe. After that, his international missions became less. At the 2007 World Championships in Arosa , he only finished 45th. In the 2009/10 season he was third in the overall World Cup standings behind Justin Lamoureux and Janne Korpi . So far last international highlight was the 2010 Olympic Winter Games of Vancouver . Schmidt was used again in the halfpipe at the competitions in Cypress Mountain and was in 20th place. By the end of the season Schmidt had played 46 world cup races, scoring 32 times, top ten 13 times and once in 2010 in La Molina in second behind Fredrik Austbø , the podium.

Schmidt was nationally several times, so in 2007 and 2011, German champion. When he was unable to participate in 2012 due to an injury, he acted as a referee.
