James Hugh Cecil, 3rd Baron Rockley ( April 5, 1934 - December 5, 2011 ) was a British peer , businessman and politician .

life and career

Cecil was born on April 5, 1934 to Robert Cecil, 2nd Baron Rockley (1901-1976) and Anne Margaret Meade-Fetherstonhaugh (1912-1980). He is a direct descendant of Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury . James Cecil attended Eton College at the request of his father and completed his military service in the Royal Navy . He then studied philosophy, politics and economics.

From 1970 to 1996 he was a director at Kleinwort Benson Ltd and from 1980 to 1991 at Equity & Law plc . He was a director at Christie's International plc from 1989 to 1998, and at Cobham plc from 1989 to 2002 . Cecil was director of Abbey National from 1990 to 1999, and of The Foreign and Colonial Investment Trust plc from 1991 to 2003.

From 1996 until his death he was director of Cadogan Group Ltd . In Kleinwort Development Fund plc he was from 1988 to 1993 Chairman ( Chairman ). He was Chairman of Midland Expressway from 1992 to 1993 and of the Kleinwort Benson Group plc from 1993 to 1996 . Cecil was Chairman of Hall and Woodhouse Ltd from 2001 to 2010 and Lambert Energy Advisory from 2001 .

He was a member of the Trustee of the National Portrait Gallery from 1981 to 1988. From 1987 to 1989 he was chairman of the Issuing Houses Association . Cecil was chairman of the board of directors ( Chairman of Governors ) of the Milton Abbey School from 1999 to 2004 . From 1988 to 1994 he was a member of the Design Council . He was Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Salters , where he was a Master from 1998 to 1999 .

Membership in the House of Lords

After the death of his father in 1976 he inherited his title Baron Rockley and the then associated seat in the House of Lords . He gave his inaugural address on February 26, 1990. In 1997, he spoke to the City of London . That was his last request to speak there.

He lost his seat through the House of Lords Act 1999 . He did not run for any of the remaining seats.

He was not listed in the Register of Hereditary Peers , which are available for by-election.

Family and death

He married Lady Sarah Cadogan in 1958, daughter of William Cadogan, 7th Earl Cadogan . Together they have a son and two daughters.

He died at the age of 77. His son Anthony Cecil inherited the title of nobility as the 4th baron.
