James Franklin Edwards (born November 22, 1955 in Seattle , Washington ) is a retired American basketball player for the Indiana Pacers , Cleveland Cavaliers , Phoenix Suns , Detroit Pistons , Los Angeles Clippers , Los Angeles Lakers , Portland Trail Blazers and Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Edwards was three times NBA champions with the Pistons (1989 and 1990) and the Bulls (1996).

Career

Edwards was selected in the 1977 NBA draft by the Lakers at position 46. In his NBA career, he was considered a solid player who was good for 15 points per game in his prime. Because he wore a Hồ Chí Minh beard throughout his career , Edwards was also called " Buddha " by his colleagues .

Edwards peaked as a member of the Pistons team that won the title in 1989 and 1990. In the "Bad Boy Pistons", known for their tough defense, Edwards was the substitute for Bill Laimbeer and Dennis Rodman . In 1996 the veteran became champion again with the Bulls around Michael Jordan and then resigned.

Edwards ended his career with 1,168 NBA games played, 14,862 points scored and 6,004 rebounds collected .
