James Gibbons (born January 5, 1894 in Idaho , † June 15, 1979 in Riverside , California ) was an American special effects artist who was awarded a Technical Achievement Award in 1948 .

biography

Gibbons was involved in six movies in 1937, for which he supplied the special effects. His first film so far was the drama Order is Half the Life of William Dieterle with Humphrey Bogart and Sybil Jason . This was followed by the thriller Murder in the Nightclub , again with Bogart and Bette Davis . With Dieterle Gibbons worked again in the adventure film based on a story by Mark Twain The Prince and the beggar boy with Errol Flynn in the lead role. The film drama San Quentin again brought him together with Humphrey Bogart. In addition to Edward G. Robinson , Davis and Bogart were once again involved in the literary film adaptation of Kid Galahad - With Hard Fists . Gibbon's last film in 1937, the romantic drama Another Dawn , reunited him with Dieterle and Flynn.

Gibbons, who was working for Warner Bros. at the time , was awarded a Technical Achievement Award in 1948 "For the development and production of large dyed plastic filters for motion picture photography" (for the development and production of strongly colored plastic filters for film photography) .
