James Herbert

James Herbert OBE (born April 8, 1943 in London , † March 20, 2013 in Woodmancote near Henfield , West Sussex ) was a British author , mainly of horror literature.

Life

James Herbert was known for his simple yet captivating novels. The protagonists in his novels are mostly young cynical men who develop a strong (sexual) relationship with a woman over the course of the story. In his early novels, James Herbert describes explicit horror, comparable to Splatter authors. James Herbert worked as a singer and as an art director at an advertising agency. He last lived near Brighton with his wife and daughter and was a full-time writer. He also designed the covers of the original English editions of his books himself and ran his own advertising.

James Herbert died on March 20, 2013 at the age of 69 in Woodmancote near Henfield in West Sussex, England .
