James Mitchell Chase

James Mitchell Chase (born December 19, 1891 in Glen Richey , Clearfield County , Pennsylvania , †  January 1, 1945 in Clearfield , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1927 and 1933 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Chase attended public schools in his home country including Clearfield High School . After a subsequent law degree at Dickinson College in Carlisle and his admission to the bar in 1916, he began to work in Clearfield in 1919 in this profession. In between he served from 1917 to 1919 during the First World War in the Air Corps of the American Expeditionary Forces. In 1924 and 1925, he served as the American Legion veterans' organization for Pennsylvania. Politically, he joined the Republican Party .

In the 1926 congressional election , Chase was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 23rd  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded William Irvin Swoope on March 4, 1927 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1933 . From 1929 onwards, these were shaped by the events of the Great Depression.

In 1932, James Chase was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. After his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. He died on January 1, 1945 in Clearfield, where he was also buried.
