James Shigeta (born June 17, 1929 in Honolulu , Hawaii , † July 28, 2014 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Shigeta was born in Hawaii in 1929. His family is of Japanese descent. He graduated from New York University . During the Korean War he was employed by the US Marine Corps .

He later moved to Japan and appeared in several musical films there. In 1959 he played his first leading role in The Crismon Kimono . In the following years he was seen in various films and television series in leading or supporting roles. One of his best-known roles was that of the company boss in the action film Die Hard . He also voiced General Li in the Disney film Mulan .
