James Thomas Harrison

James Thomas Harrison (born November 30, 1811 near Pendleton , Anderson County , South Carolina , † May 22, 1879 in Columbus , Lowndes County , Mississippi ) was an American lawyer and politician . He was a descendant of the 23rd US President Benjamin Harrison .

Life

Harrison graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1829 and then studied law under James L. Pettigru . He then moved to Macon , Mississippi in 1834 , finally settling in Columbus in 1861. He represented Mississippi in 1861 at its Secession Convention and later in the Provisional Confederate Congress . After the Reconstruction of Mississippi, he was elected to the US Congress , but declined and went to his practice in his legal practice.

He died in Columbus, Mississippi in 1879 and was then buried there in Friendship Cemetery .
