Jan Chapman

Jan Chapman AO (born March 28, 1950 in Newcastle , New South Wales ) is an Australian film producer .

Life

Chapmans grew up in Sydney , where he studied English and Art at the University of Sydney . There she met her first husband, the director Phillip Noyce , the wedding took place in 1971. In 1977 she worked as a script assistant on her husband's film Backroads , and the marriage ended in divorce that same year. 1984 began her career as a producer at the Australian television station ABC , for which she produced 20 episodes of the series Sweet and Sour . During her time at television she discovered director Jane Campion at film school . In 1986 she produced their first feature film, Zwei gute Freundinnen . By 2009, this collaboration resulted in seven feature films in which Chapman was involved either as a producer ( Lantana ) or as a dramaturge ( An angel on my board ). The climax of this collaboration was the drama The Piano , for which Chapman was nominated for an Oscar in 1994 in the category Best Picture .

At the 2017 Academy Awards , the “In Memoriam” segment was dedicated to the costume designer Janet Patterson , who died in October 2016 , and a photo of Chapman was displayed next to Patterson's name.

Chapman has been married to actor Stephen O'Rourke since 1985, and the marriage resulted in one child.
