Jan Maurits Quinkhard (born January 28, 1688 in Rees , † November 11, 1772 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch painter of German origin.

Life

Quinkhard was the son of the German painter Julius Quinkhard, with whom he first apprenticed. Around 1710 he went to Amsterdam and studied with Arnold Boonen (1669–1729), Christoffel Lubienietski (1659–1729) and Nicolaes Verkolje (1673–1746). On October 21, 1723 he received the citizenship of Amsterdam. He worked and lived there, painting family, allegorical and mythological motifs, historical pictures or interiors and was in demand as a portrait painter or wig painter. At times he was also active in Utrecht. His portraits were engraved by Jacob Houbraken , Pieter Tanjé and Reinier Vinkeles , among others . The works he left behind were sold in Amsterdam on March 15, 1763 and May 15, 1772 after his death.

Quinkhard was one of the founders of the Amsterdamse Stads Teekenacademie in 1717/18 .

Family
His son Julius Quinkhard (1736–1776), also called Julius Henricus Quinkhard, worked as a painter, draftsman and etcher as well as a picture dealer.
