Jacobus Houbraken
Jacobus Houbraken (born December 25, 1698 in Dordrecht , † November 14, 1780 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch engraver .
Life
Jacobus Houbraken, son of the painter Arnold Houbraken , moved with his father to Amsterdam, where he worked for many years and, mostly using Edelinck and Devret as models, created more than 600 portraits, almost all of which were both in terms of ease with which they are executed as having great value due to the power of color.
His first major work was the portraits of his father's art-historical work. The collection of portraits of the governors from the House of Orange-Nassau as well as those of the most eminent persons in Jan Wagenaar's Patriotic History and a large number of scholars, poets, princes, statesmen etc. is of interest . Houbraken died in Amsterdam in 1780.
