Engelhard "Harta" Pargätzi (born July 31, 1949 in Arosa ) is a former Swiss ski racer . He was active in the 1970s and specialized in the giant slalom discipline. Today he works as an entrepreneur .
biography
The son of a Rhaetian Railway official went skiing for the first time at the age of four; his role model in his youth was Roger Staub , who was also from Arosa . From 1972 to 1977 Pargätzi was able to score points in the Ski World Cup , he almost exclusively drove giant slaloms and was among the top ten 20 times. At the 1974 World Cup in St. Moritz, he finished fifth in the giant slalom, making him the best Swiss.
On December 14, 1975 Pargätzi won his only World Cup race, the giant slalom of the 3-tre races in Madonna di Campiglio . In the same season he reached two more podium places with the third ranks of Copper Mountain and Adelboden . Until the last race of the season Pargätzi kept the chance of winning the giant slalom classification. In the decisive run, however, a ski binding opened and he was eliminated. This made him fourth in the discipline and tenth in the overall ranking.
At the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , Pargätzi drove in the giant slalom despite a gross driving error (he passed a goal from the wrong side, which caused the displeasure of the director of the Swiss Ski Association , Adolf Ogi , who was at the scene ) sixth place. He had to end his sports career the following year after three more placements in the top ten of World Cup races because of a torn cruciate ligament .
After his resignation, Pargätzi was active in various industries. The trained machine fitter was, among other things, the owner of a sports shop in Chur , representative of the ski sales company Snow Life , sales manager of the sports goods manufacturer Puma in Eastern Switzerland as well as marketing manager and product manager of two helicopter companies. Today Pargätzi is the owner of Eventbau Pargätzi , which provides container boxes for TV stations, timing systems, etc. at major international events. He is also a board member of the regional organization Schanfigg Tourismus and board member of the ski lifts on the Hochwang .
