Jan Morávek (born May 1, 1888 in Kamenný Přívoz , † April 4, 1958 in Prague ) was a Czech writer and journalist .

Life

The child of a butcher first attended industrial school , but his main interests were literature and the theater, in which he continues to work even after he has dropped out of school. After a break due to military service, he has been playing on stages in Nachod and Pilsen since 1912 . In 1914 he moved in. After the war he got an engagement at the Divadlo na Vinohradech theater , later with Karel Hašler in his Lucerna .

In 1919 he left the stage and started working as an editor at the magazine Obrana venkova and Kalendář republiky (Calendar of the Republic). Until 1941 he worked as editor-in-chief of Pražský ilustrovaný zpravodaj (Prague Illustrated Reporter) at the Melantrich publishing house under the direction of Jaroslav Šalda .

Today the author is hardly known, but at the time he led the bestseller list together with Jan Vrba , Jindřich Šimon Baar , Josef Knap , Ivan Olbracht and Karel Čapek .
