Jan Schiffers

Jan Schiffers (born January 6, 1977 in Kaltenkirchen ) is a German lawyer and politician of the AfD .

Life

Schiffers passed his Abitur in Kaltenkirchen and studied law at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . He completed his legal clerkship at the Darmstadt Regional Court . Since then he has been working as a lawyer in Bamberg. Schiffers is an Evangelical Lutheran , married and the father of two daughters.

politics

Schiffers has been a member of the Bavarian AfD since 2013 and chairman of the Bamberg district association since 2016. In the 2017 federal election he ran as a direct candidate for the AfD in the Bamberg constituency . In the Bavarian state elections in 2018 , he ran as a constituency member in the Bamberg-Stadt constituency and on position 4 of the AfD in Upper Franconia . and moved through the district list as a member of the Bavarian state parliament . Since the local elections in 2020 he has also been a councilor of the AfD in Bamberg.

In the state parliament, Schiffers is a member of the committee for labor and social affairs, youth and family in the Bavarian state parliament and spokesman for the AfD parliamentary group for integration, youth and children. In December 2019, the AfD parliamentary group in the state parliament failed to have Schiffers elected as vice-president of the Bavarian state parliament .

Positions

Relationship to right-wing extremism

Jan Schiffers is a signatory of the Erfurt resolution of the fundamentalist national wing of the AfD. Schiffers said that he too would have participated in the protests of right-wing groups in Chemnitz in August 2018 if the election campaign had given him the time.

Relationship to Islam

In a speech on a motion to ban minarets, Schiffers spoke of "gestures of submission to Islam " by political parties in Germany and called minarets a "symbol of Islam's claim to power". He also spoke out against teaching Islam in Bavarian schools.
