Salzburg-Mitte is a motorway junction of the Austrian western motorway (A1) located in the city of Salzburg . It has the numbering Exit 292 and is at highway kilometer 292.5.

history

On September 13, 1941, the first two motorway sections of the Reichsautobahn in the "Ostmark" were released: from the makeshift junction in Schwarzbach, about 0.7 km west of the border on Walserberg , to the Salzburg-Mitte motorway junction and from the Salzburg junction to Motorway junction Salzburg-Süd at Anif - Grödig . By the time work was stopped in 1942, a total of 16 kilometers of motorway had been completed to Salzburg-Nord. In the course of the six-lane expansion of the western autobahn between the north autobahn junction and the Salzburg junction (1995–2001), the middle exit became a distribution circle with an internal diameter of 80 meters. Parts of the traffic are routed past the actual roundabout as a bypass to relieve traffic. The western part of the roundabout lies over the Liefering environmental protection tunnel, which was built at the same time, while a new bridge was stretched over the western motorway for the eastern part. The new junction was opened to traffic in 2001.
