In 1975 Szpunar took part in the biathlon world championships for the first time in Antholz and won the bronze medal as a starting runner with Andrzej Rapacz , Ludwik Zięba and Wojciech Truchan in the relay race behind Finland and the Soviet Union. In the individual he was 24th, in the sprint 16.
