Jan Timmer

Jan Dirk Timmer (born February 20, 1933 in Lienden ) is a Dutch entrepreneur.

Life

In 1952 Timmer joined the Philips group. In 1963 he was assigned to the management of the Philips subsidiary in Ethiopia . In 1968 he became head of Philips' regional office for Africa. In 1970 he became a member of the Corporate Staff Bureau and in 1973 he was appointed director. In 1977 he was entrusted with the management of Philips activities (Philips Electronics Holdings Ltd.) in South Africa, and in 1981 he moved to the group management of the music subsidiary PolygramInternational Ltd., which he took over as President and Chief Executive Officer in 1983. Timmer led the music company of the Philips group to its current international importance. In 1987 he became a member of the Philips Group Management Committee and Chairman of the Consumer Electronics division. From 1990 to 1996 Jan Timmer was CEO of the Philips Group and handed over his office to Cor Boonstra .
