Gerard Johannes Kleisterlee (born September 28, 1946 in Ludwigsburg ) is a German-Dutch manager and current chairman of the Vodafone Group .

Life

Kleisterlee was born to a German mother and a Dutch father in Ludwigsburg near Stuttgart . Kleisterlee grew up in the Netherlands . He completed his training as an electrical engineer at the Eindhoven University of Technology. Like his father, he worked for Philips. He received his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania .

From 1981 to 1986 he was General Manager of the Philips Professional Audio Product Group. In 1986 Kleisterlee switched to Philips Components. In 1994 he became director of Philips Display Components and was responsible for global business. In 1996 he became head of Philips Taiwan and regional manager of Philips Components for the Asian region. From September 1997 to June 1998 he was also responsible for all Philips activities in China . From 2001 to 2011, Kleisterlee was President and CEO of Philips before handing over his position to his successor, Frans van Houten , on April 1, 2011 .

On July 26, 2011, he became Chairman of the Vodafone Group .
