Life

His work fell into the so-called Golden Age , when the newly founded Republic of the Seven United Netherlands experienced a political, economic and artistic heyday. It is generally believed that Jan Victors was a student of Rembrandt in the second half of 1630 . However, there is no reliable evidence from the 17th century that proves a stay in Rembrandt's workshop.

As a result of the Rampjaar , the disaster year 1672, Jan Victors signed up for the Dutch East India Company in 1676 as " comforter " in the colonies of Indonesia. He died shortly after arriving in December of that year.
