Janusz Guńka (born January 1, 1961 in Chochołów ) is a former Polish Nordic combined athlete .

Career

Guńka and represented Wisła-Gwardia Zakopane in his career . At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 1977 in St. Croix , he finished 29th in ski jumping . A year later he placed 41st at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Murau in 1978 . In February 1979 he won the ski jumping competition of the Winter Spartakiade in Borşa in front of the East German athletes Norbert Maischke and Olaf Schmidt .

For most of his career Guńka was active as a Nordic combined skier. For example, he reached eighth place with the team at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 1980 in Örnsköldsvik . In December 1983 he started in Oberwiesenthal in the World Cup , but missed the points. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1985 in Seefeld , he finished sixth together with Tadeusz Bafia and Karol Kołtaś . Two years later he reached tenth place at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1987 in Oberstdorf, together with Stanisław Ustupski and Tadeusz Bafia .

At national level he won five medals in the Nordic combined, but could only win the championship title with the team.

Personal

Guńka's wife Halina Guńka is a former cross-country skier , biathlete and Olympian. It is very likely that Ryszard Guńka was his brother. After his career, he moved to Thunder Bay .
