Jaraguá do Sul , officially Portuguese Município de Jaraguá do Sul , is a medium-sized city in the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil with an estimated population of around 174,000 in 2018 . It is particularly important from an economic point of view. Large companies based there are Eletromotores WEG , which was founded in 1961 by a German among others, as well as Duas Rodas and the Malwee textile factory, which is known for its Parque Malwee and its indoor soccer team.
The rifle festival , which was launched in 1989, aims to preserve German traditions in the city. It took place in October until a few years ago, but was then moved to November due to overlapping with the Oktoberfest in Blumenau. The shooting festival is organized by all of the 23 local shooting clubs, with Baependi being the largest. It connects the tradition of mainly German and Italian immigrants around the 19th century with their earlier homeland. The traditional costume worn is mostly based on the style of that time. Local brass bands and breweries complete the picture.
