geography

River course

The river has its source in the southern part of the Jardine River National Park about 10 km from the coast of the Coral Sea in the northern foothills of the Great Dividing Range . It first flows through the national park in a northerly direction and then turns its course to the west. At the western border of the national park, it meets the area's only access road, the Peninsula Developmental Road , which from there accompanies the river for about 10 km before it turns south. The river turns north again and forms the Jardine Swamps wetland . A few kilometers north of the marshland, the Jardine River flows into the Arafura Sea about 15 km west of the small town of Injinoo .
