Location of the Jarenga (English Yarenga) in the catchment area of the Northern Dvina |
The Jarenga ( Russian Я́ренга, Я́реньга ) is a 281 km long right tributary of the Vytschegda in the Komi Republic and the Arkhangelsk Oblast in northwestern Russia .
The Jarenga rises near the settlement Weschaika in the Komi republic. It passes the place of the same name, Jarenga , which is already in the Arkhangelsk Oblast, then flows in a south-westerly direction. From the right, the Jarenga takes on its largest tributary, the Uktym . In the lower reaches it flows south and finally flows into the Wytschegda at Jarensk .
The Jarenga drains an area of 5140 km². It is covered by a layer of ice between October and the end of April. Due to the melting of the snow , the amount of water in the river multiplies in the months from April to June, resulting in flooding. The mean discharge at the Tochta gauge , 20 km above the estuary, is 49 m³ / s.
