Jasmin Freilang (née Maurer ; born March 29, 1989 in Saarbrücken ) is a former German politician of the Pirate Party . From 2012 to 2017 she was elected member of the Saarland state parliament via the state list . As a member of the pirate faction, she was mainly concerned with education policy.

Career

Clearance studies after high school in 2008, first law at the University of Saarland and later middle class economics at the University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern , but they did not finish both courses. She then began training as an IT systems clerk , which she interrupted in favor of her political commitment.

In 2016, she completed her training parallel to her work in the state parliament. She has been married since 2016.

In 2017, Freilang sued the administrative court in Saarlouis against the admission requirements for the recruitment test for the Saarland police service, in particular against the required minimum height of 162 cm for women. After winning the procedure, she was approved for further tests. In 2017 she began her training as a police officer.

Political work

In the Saarland state parliament she was a member of the committees for education, culture and media, for social affairs, health, women and family as well as for environmental and consumer protection. The focus of her work here was on education policy: improving the school system, expanding childcare places in day-care centers and media literacy. In addition, she advocates equality for homosexuals and deals with the subject of animal welfare.

Already in the election campaign for the 2009 Bundestag elections , she supported the Pirate Party and shortly afterwards joined the Saarland regional association. On October 30, 2009, she was elected deputy chairman of the state board and in 2010 replaced Marc Großjean as state chairman. In 2011 she was confirmed in office. In August 2012, Freilang was elected deputy state chairman. A year later, in June 2013, she led the party again as state chairwoman. Due to the double burden of the mandate in the state parliament, she decided in November 2013 not to run for the state chair. However, from November 2014 to November 2015 she returned to the state executive as deputy chairwoman.
