Viewpoints and reception

After the former national soccer player Thomas Hitzlsperger had revealed his homosexuality in 2014 , von Altenbockum wrote a comment in which he described the resulting debate as the “Rocky Horror Hitzlsperger Show” and described criticism of homophobia in Germany as completely exaggerated. The comment concluded with the words “It shouldn't come to the point where it takes courage to say:» I'm heterosexual, and that's a good thing. «” The comment was written by Leo Fischer in the daily newspaper Neues Deutschland and by Georg Diez in the column SPON - The Critic taken up critically.

Von Altenbockum came under fire in June 2019 when he distributed a video on Twitter of a YouTube channel that was considered Islamist and homophobic. In the video, conspiracy theories are spread about the YouTuber Rezo , which among other things deal with his independence. Von Altenbockum provided his tweet with an allegation to YouTuber Rezo that he was doing advertising for the advertising group Ströer . After massive criticism, von Altenbockum deleted the tweet and apologized for the "ambiguous wording".
