from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kurt Dornis (born October 7, 1930 in Glogau / Silesia ) is a German painter , graphic artist and draftsman from the Leipzig School .

Life

Kurt Dornis has lived in Leipzig since he fled Silesia in 1944. From 1946 to 1949 he did an apprenticeship as a decorative painter and then studied for three years, from 1949 to 1952, at the college for applied arts in Leipzig with Walter Münze. Since 1952 he has been working as a freelancer in Leipzig. In 1976 he made a study trip to what was then the Soviet Union.

Painting style

The very withdrawn Leipzig painter and draftsman Kurt Dornis has a drawing tradition that has its roots in different epochs. He is a "strict and matter-of-fact purist" with a "object-related, form-precise and sober style that applies the colors smoothly", in which he prefers to create "neo-Roman cityscapes". His main motifs are the bridges, side streets or old factory buildings in Leipzig.

Arnd Schultheiß (* 1930) and Günter Thiele (* 1930) as well as Baldwin Zettl (* 1943), who concentrate almost exclusively on drawing, are among Kurt Dornis' aesthetic colleagues with their linearity. There is also an intellectual kinship with the Berlin painter Karl Hofer (1878–1955) from the twenties. Further back in art history, there are touches on the lines in the drawings of the romantic Philipp Otto Runge (1777–1810).

reception

“He is considered the city's topographer and chronicler. In his pictures you can feel the reluctance of the observer. "
