Arnd Schultheiss

Arnd Schultheiß (born March 22, 1930 in Leipzig ) is a German painter and graphic artist .

Live and act

Arnd Schultheiß already received preliminary training in drawing during his high school days when he attended the Musisches Gymnasium in Leipzig from 1942 to 1945 . Here his love for music was also strengthened. From 1946 to 1951 he studied at the Leipzig College of Graphics and Book Art. His teachers included Elisabeth Voigt and Max Schwimmer . After completing his studies, he worked as a freelance painter, graphic artist and journalist.

In 1968 he became friends with the Gewandhauskapellmeister Václav Neumann , which resulted in the first drawings from the concert hall. With graphics by conductors and soloists, a school-hot specialty developed. He portrayed Herbert von Karajan , Kurt Masur , Sergiu Celibidache , Leopold Hager , Andor Foldes and Lasar Berman , among others . 1983–1985 three series of etchings from the concert hall were published, commissioned by the City Council of Leipzig. But also collages, painting and building-related art (such as the facade design of the book towers of the extension of the German library ) emerged in his long working life.

From 1991 to 1999, Schultheiß was a lecturer in graphic design and nature studies at the evening academy of the Leipzig University of Graphics and Book Art. 1990-1993 he was chairman of the Federation of Artists Leipzig eV and 1991-2001 Vice Chairman of the National Association Fine Arts Saxony eV In 1993 he was one of the 24 chosen by the Prime Minister of Saxony personalities in the newly established Saxon Cultural Senate appointed, of which he was ten years .

Works by Arnd Schultheiß are in public ownership in museums and collections in Altenburg , Chemnitz , Berlin , Dresden and Leipzig (including the Museum of Fine Arts , Leipzig City History Museum , the Sparkasse art gallery, the university's art collections and the Gewandhaus ). Since 1946 there have been around 150 exhibitions and participation in exhibitions with works by Arnd Schultheiss at home and abroad. According to his own admission, the last exhibition with his works took place in 2014 at the same place in Leipzig where he once attended the music school. That year he also donated 125 drawings to the Leipzig City History Museum.

Honors

  • In 1985 Arnd Schultheiß received the Leipzig City Art Prize .
  • In 2005 he was awarded an honorary professorship by the Free State of Saxony.
