action

Public prosecutor Manuel Bacher celebrates his promotion with colleagues and then commits an affair with a new public prosecutor that he immediately regrets. On the way home to his pregnant wife, he notices an argument between a junkie couple in the park and intervenes: Out of anger about his own misstep, he knocks the man down with a bottle. The next day he learns that the man is dead. He does not report to the police in order not to endanger his career, his wife and the comfortable life in the new house.

The former drug addict Joy has watched the event and puts Bacher under pressure. The new prosecutor Caroline von Studt, who is investigating the case, is also exerting pressure. Finally, Bacher confesses to his wife Leonie the affair and later also his outburst of violence. Leonie is initially disappointed, but stands by him.

Joy settles in with the Bacher family, Manuel Bacher wants to clear the table, his conscience troubles him, especially since another person is in custody for the homicide who ultimately even commits suicide. But Leonie stops him and takes care of Joy so as not to jeopardize their future together. She even plans to open a boutique with Joy, but when the two inspect the shell of a potential store, Joy falls on the construction site and dies. It remains to be seen whether it was an accident or whether the fall was caused by Leonie. Leonie is hospitalized because of a nervous breakdown. Investigators eventually find a baseball bat in Joy's room that was known to have killed the drug addict, and the woman who was harassed in the park at the time confesses to the crime. Investigations against Manuel that have started in the meantime will be discontinued.

background

Julia Thurnau, Lili Zahavi and Felix Klare on the set of Momentversagen .

According to his own statement, director Fromm wanted to show with his film “Momentversagen” what happens when the “lower class” penetrates the middle class. He and screenwriter Norbert Ehry had already worked together in 2003 on the Grimme Prize- nominated crime episode K3 - Kripo Hamburg - On Thin Ice .

“Momentversagen” is Radical Movies Production's first production for WDR. The producer is Michael Gebhart , Eva Laass the producer. Caren Toennissen is the responsible WDR editor. The film was shot with HDR cameras.

The television film achieved a market share of 15.5 percent when it was first broadcast with 5.00 million viewers.

reception

In his review, Rainer Tittelbach praised the efficient, reduced dramaturgy and the “precise visual language” of the film. Felix Klare played the prosecutor Manuel Bacher "very convincing".

Thomas Gehringer from the Tagesspiegel appreciates that the director and screenwriter “drove the story beyond the crime routine” and that the film remains exciting because “not every riddle in this psychologically sophisticated drama is solved immediately”.

The film service , however, criticizes the film's lack of credibility. The effects of Bacher's short-circuiting act would be "exaggeratedly exaggerated".

Frank Preuss from the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung also complains about the script's decreasing credibility after Joy moved into the Bachers' house. However, he certifies the actors to have delivered "serious work" and director Fromm a "pleasantly calm" narrative style.

The world critic Barbara Möller describes failure of the moment as " film noir in color". The script is not original, it reminds of films like A Fateful Affair and For Lack of Evidence . Thanks to director Fromm, who doesn't like happy endings, it nevertheless turned out to be a “very good, exciting film”. The cast is also excellent, especially Lisa Wagner stands out.
