history

The village in the Sandomir Primeval Forest, in the Sandomir Basin , was first mentioned in 1707. The name is derived from the appellative jata ( alpine hut , shed, general store).

During the first partition of Poland in 1772 the village became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804). On the Austrian map by Friedrich von Mieg (1779–1783) this area was still completely forested.

In 1783 German Catholic and Lutheran colonists were settled in the course of the Josephine colonization . Not all settlers liked the quality of the land and 10 families were later relocated elsewhere. In a similar sense, colonies were created in the area by Polish settlers. The Protestants belonged to the parish in Raniżów (Ranischau) and were buried in the Jeżowe cemetery (the tombs have hardly been preserved).

In 1900 the municipality of Jata in the Nisko district had 137 houses with 758 inhabitants, all of whom were Polish-speaking, except for 698 Roman Catholics there were 60 Jews.

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Jata came to Poland. In 1919 a separate Roman Catholic parish was established. During the Second World War , the village belonged to the General Government .

From 1975 to 1998 Jata was part of the Tarnobrzeg Voivodeship .
