Ettlingen Jazz Choir

The Ettlingen Jazz Choir is a mixed jazz and pop choir that exists in Ettlingen . It emerged in 1995 from a workers' choral society founded in 1904 .

Under the chorus line of Wolfgang Klockewitz today about 40 singers and there are singers active. Its program includes swing tracks , jazz standards and classics, which the choir presents in new versions. Wolfgang Klockewitz arranged most of the pieces especially for the jazz choir. The choir is accompanied by well-known professional musicians from the Baden region .

History of the choir

The original singing body Arbeiterverein Eintracht 1904 eV was founded on October 30, 1904 in the "Darmstädter Hof" in Ettlingen as a male choir out of the labor movement . This was followed by participation in various song festivals , in 1907 in Freiburg, 1910 in Heidelberg, 1911 in Strasbourg and 1913 in Karlsruhe. The First World War interrupted the successful choir activities. After 1918, the association's work was resumed and strengthened so that the choir could join the Singakademie Karlsruhe .

In 1933 the workers' association "Eintracht" was banned after the National Socialists came to power , according to the commemorative publication for the 100th anniversary of the association in 2004, "the association's assets were confiscated, notes, the association's flag and all documents burned." work up, as the assets and all association documents were destroyed. For a new establishment in the former French occupation zone, political assessments by the military government were required . On January 6, 1948, she granted the choir temporary permission to work.

On January 24, 1971, the name of the choir was changed: the “Workers' Association Eintracht 1904” became the “Eintracht Choir 1904 Ettlingen”. A mixed choir emerged from the all-male choir. In 1995 the jazz pianist and composer Wolfgang Klockewitz took over the direction of the choir. It was then decided to give the Eintracht Choir the name of "Jazzchor Ettlingen".

As a registered, non-profit association of the city of Ettlingen, the choir also takes part in official meetings of the city and represents the good image of Ettlingen beyond the national borders.

The Ettlingen Jazz Choir has a large repertoire of jazz standards, jazzy pop and funk numbers and compositions from Cannonball Adderley to George Gershwin and Joe Zawinul .

The choir has performed in concert halls, churches and at the large open-air concert “Fest” in the Günther-Klotz-Anlage in Karlsruhe . a. at festivals such as B. performed at the Swiss   Montreux Jazz Festival . The Ettlingen Jazz Choir performed several times at the International University Music Festival in Belfort , France .

In 2015 the jazz choir celebrated its 20th anniversary with a concert "Pop Goes Jazz" in the Schlossgartenhalle Ettlingen.
