Jean-Baptiste Maunier (born December 22, 1990 in Brignoles , Département Var ) is a French singer and actor who is best known for his role in the film The Children of Monsieur Mathieu ( French Les Choristes ). He is also known as a songwriter and model.

life and career

Maunier was born on December 22, 1990 as the first son of Thierry Maunier, cameraman at France 2 , and his wife Muriel. He has a brother, Benjamin, who is five years his junior. JB, as he is also known, spent his youth in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon , a suburb of Lyon . He attended a private Catholic school, where he sang as a soloist in the choir Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc under the direction of Nicolas Porte. In 2004 he was selected by the director Christophe Barratier for the role of Pierre Morhange in the film The Children of Monsieur Mathieu , in which he acted as a singer and actor. This role made Maunier internationally known. The film's soundtrack has sold over a million copies in France alone.

A year later Maunier performed with the young French singer Clémence Saint-Preux in Concerto pour deux voix , an adaptation of the Concerto pour une voix by Saint-Preux , the singer's father. After graduating from Baccalaureate in 2008, he went to New York City for a year , where he trained as an actor at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute . His first appearance as a tenor took place in 2010 in the operatic oeuvre Dogora by Étienne Perruchon with the song Soutrinka . In 2006 Jean-Baptiste played a leading role in the film Le grand Meaulnes (based on the novel of the same name by Alain-Fournier ). The film Hellphone followed in 2007, where he also played one of the leading roles. In the same year L'auberge rouge appeared . After a Chinese film in 2011 ( Perfect baby ), various roles in short films and TV series followed. In 2013 Maunier starred in a play for the first time: the teenage lead in La Chanson de l'éléphant by Nicolas Billon at the Petit Montparnasse theater in Paris . Other theater roles followed.

On April 29, 2016, he released his first album entitled Nuits blanches on Mercury Records. In 2017 his second album Nuits revolver was released there .

Since 2005, Jean-Baptiste Maunier has been a member of Les Enfoirés , a singing group that raises donations for free meals for the homeless ( Les Restos du Cœur ) every year with a large charity concert broadcast on TV . Songs are covered by other artists and staged with elaborate costumes.
