Jean-Baptiste Molette , full Jean-Baptiste Molette, baron de Morangiès (born November 24, 1758 in Le Mas-de-Tence , † February 21, 1827 in Antibes ) was a French general de brigade of the infantry .

Live and act

On June 15, 1775, Molette joined the royal army as a cadet . He was soon able to distinguish himself through courage and bravery and quickly made a career. She led him from Sous-lieutenant (August 27, 1778) to Lieutenant (December 29, 1785) to Capitaine (January 12, 1792).

Molette fought in the coalition wars under General André Masséna in Italy ; u. a. he took part in the siege of Milan and was wounded in the process. After his recovery he was stationed in Italy for some time.

When Napoleon was planning his campaign to Egypt in 1798 , Molette volunteered to do so. He fought at the pyramids (July 21, 1798), Abukir (July 25, 1799) and Acre (March / April 1799). He was again able to distinguish himself through bravery and was wounded several times.

After his recovery and return to France, Molette was entrusted with more administrative tasks for some time. From July 1805 he then acted as military commander of the city of Genoa . During Napoleon's Russian campaign , Molette was stationed with his troops in Paris .

After the Battle of Waterloo (June 18, 1815), Molette became part of the Bourbons . King Louis XVIII thanked for this with the Ordre de Saint-Louis and the ennoblement . On July 31, 1815 - before the Peace of Paris - Molette officially retired. He also resigned from office and spent his old age in Antibes.

Jean-Baptiste Molette died on February 21, 1827 in Antibes, where he found his final resting place.
