Jean-Francis Treffel (born March 15, 1955 in Paris ) is a French civil servant and Prefect of Mayenne since 2019

Life

Treffel was born on March 15, 1955 in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. After graduating from high school, he studied public law for four years at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris, from which he graduated with the academic degree Maîtrise and the DEA .

Political career in France

From January 1982 he was an administrative assistant in the finance department of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Budget ( French : Ministère de l'Economie, des Finances et du Budget ). He then worked from April 1986 for the head of cabinet of the Loir-et-Cher department and from June 1989 for that of the Yonne department . From February 1991 he then worked for the head of cabinet of the Val-d'Oise department , where he was promoted to head of cabinet in August 1992 and became sub-prefect second class. He then became sub-prefect of the Arrondissement Lunéville in Val-d'Oise in March 1993 until he became sub-prefect of Saint-Dié in February 1995 . From August 1997, Treffel was first class civil administrator and head of prefectural officials in the Ministry of the Interior . In January 2002 he became Deputy Director of Finance and Data Processing at the Administrative and Financial Services Directorate of the French Government . From September 2005, Treffel was Deputy Director of Programming and Finance at the General Secretariat of the French Government and Senior Official for Sustainable Development at the French Prime Minister . From April 2008 he was Deputy Sub-Prefect and Secretary General of the Prefecture of Moselle until he became Sub-Prefect of Lorient in June 2011 .

Prefect, Administrateur Supérieur of Wallis and Futuna

Since February 27, 2017 he has been Administrateur Supérieur of Wallis and Futuna in the South Pacific. Treffel was appointed on February 1, 2017 at the suggestion of the French Interior Ministry. It is his first office outside of mainland France. After his arrival in Valais on February 27, 2017, Treffel said that he would particularly like to support the youth. Wallis and Futuna have been struggling with high levels of emigration (to New Caledonia, for example ) for a long time .
