Jean-Jacques Castoldi
Jean-Jacques Castoldi (born November 11, 1804 in Geneva ; † April 26, 1871 there ) was a Swiss politician and judge . From 1848 to 1851 he was a member of the National Council, from 1852 to 1857 he was State Councilor of the Canton of Geneva .
biography
The son of a trader originally from Milan studied law at the universities of Geneva and Paris . In 1827 he was naturalized in the city of Geneva . After graduating, he worked as a lawyer from 1830 . Castoldi was a moderate radical and opponent of James Fazy . As a member of the Constitutional Council, he was involved in drafting a new cantonal constitution in 1842. In the years 1842/43, 1848 to 1850 and 1851 to 1853 he was a member of the Geneva City Council .
After being a member of the Provisional Council of State in 1846/47 , Castoldi was elected to the Grand Council in 1848, of which he belonged for almost a quarter of a century until his death. In addition, from 1853 to 1855, as a State Councilor, he was responsible for the justice and police departments. Castoldi ran successfully in the National Council elections in 1848 , but three years later he no longer ran. In 1847 and 1849 he refused appointments to professor. From 1852 to 1857 he served as a federal judge , from 1852 to 1869 as a judge at the cantonal court of cassation.
