Jean-Marie Guyau

Jean-Marie Guyau (born October 28, 1854 in Laval , † March 31, 1888 in Menton ) was a French philosopher and poet .

Life

Inspired by poetry and philosophy, he read all the great texts by Hugo , Corneille , Musset , Epiktet , Plato and Kant and translated Epictet's handbook . He taught at the Lycée Condorcet and then moved to southern France for health reasons, where he lived until his untimely death. He was the son of Augustine Tuillerie , who published Le Tour de France par deux enfants in 1877 in 1877. His wife published children's books under the pseudonym Pierre Ulric. As a philosopher, Guyau was together with Alfred Fouillée the most important exponent of philosophical evolutionism .
