Jean-Philippe Maitre (born June 18, 1949 in Geneva ; † February 1, 2006 ibid) was a Swiss politician ( CVP ) and a member of the National Council . He was the elected President of the National Council for 2005, but resigned prematurely on February 18, 2005 for health reasons.

His father, Yves Maitre, was a CVP politician and member of the National Council. Jean-Philippe Maitre studied law at the University of Geneva . He worked as a lawyer in Geneva .

From 1973 to 1985 Jean-Philippe Maitre was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Geneva . From 1980 to 1984 he was President of the CVP in his home canton. In 1983 Maitre was elected to the National Council and then re-elected five times. In addition to his work as a National Councilor , he was Geneva State Councilor (executive) from 1985 to 1997 and headed the Department of Economic Affairs. In 1992 and 1997 he was President of the State Council. From 1991 to 1995 and then again from 1998 to 2002 Maitre was a member of the Presidium of CVP Switzerland. In the meantime, he was parliamentary group leader of the CVP in the Federal Assembly .

Jean-Philippe Maitre died of complications from a brain tumor . He was married and had three children. His son Vincent Maitre has also been a member of the National Council for the CVP since 2019.
