Jean-Pierre Khazem

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jean-Pierre Khazem (* 1968 in Paris ) is a French photographer, director for commercials and performance artist .

Khazem publishes in trend magazines such as The Face, numéro, details, but also z. B. in the star . He also photographs advertising campaigns for Dockers, Big Issue , Mustang , Diesel , canal + , Heineken (Dutch campaign) and McDonald’s and shot spots for the Kenzo fashion label .

Masks - the characteristic of Khazem's photographs

The masks that the models wear are characteristic of his work. Some of them depict very realistic (e.g. first ladies ) but idealized faces (e.g. Diesel campaign Stay young forever ), and some are comic-like or in the form of animal heads (as in the Heineken campaign or in the spot for Kenzo ). In this way, Khazem combines the real with the unreal, which makes his photographs both strange and absolutely familiar. You can get a good impression of his work by looking at the web links.

According to Khazem, he uses masks because he could not stand the acting of the models. The way they always pulled the same faces, the pout, the look and so on. For him, the masks let the quality of man emerge. This also makes the body look more alive. (See Andrew Graham Dixon, “New Lisa Life,” The Sunday Telegraph Magazine, April 20, 2003.)

Exhibitions (selection)

Since 1992 his works have been exhibited internationally on a regular basis. B. at the Archeology of Elegance in the Deichtorhallen , Hamburg 2003. Here is a selection of solo exhibitions:

Here Khazem “portrayed” the American first ladies of the recent past: Barbara Bush , Nancy Reagan , Roslyn Carter , Betty Ford and Pat Nixon . The first ladies are represented by models wearing realistic silicone masks with anatomically correct eyes and hair. The famous women can be recognized at first glance, but their empty looks and the rigid facial expression make them appear otherworldly. Playing with artificiality and reality, Khazem creates historical moments that never took place and records them on film. The lines between truth and fiction are blurring.
