Jean-Pierre Staelens

Jean-Pierre Staelens (born December 2, 1955 in Ghent ) is a Belgian volleyball coach and former national player. His daughters Kim and Chaïne Staelens are also professional volleyball players.

Career

Staelens was active as a player in his hometown with White Star Amandsberg and Ibis Kortrijk . He won the Belgian championship seven times and the national cup eight times. He also played for the South African club Witwatersrand . With the Belgian national team , he took part in world and European championships; He made a total of 152 international matches.

His first positions as a trainer were Ibis Bio Sport, Mardavo, Saturnus Uden and VC Weert . Staelens also looked after the Dutch junior national team. In 2009 he went to the German Bundesliga for VfB 91 Suhl . There he reached the final of the DVV Cup in his first season . He then moved to league competitor VT Aurubis Hamburg . In 2011/12 he was followed by his daughter Kim Staelens to Hamburg for one season. In January 2013, Staelens was dismissed from VT Aurubis.
