Jean Ballesdens

Jean Ballesdens (* 1595 in Paris ; † October 27, 1675 ibid) was a French lawyer and bibliophile .

Ballesdens studied both law at the university in his hometown and then worked as a lawyer at the Parlement de Paris . Later also as secretary to the Chancellor of France , Pierre Séguier . As such, he was the educator of the fatherless grandchildren Séguier, Armand du Cambout de Coislin and Pierre du Cambout de Coislin . As an esthete and bibliophile, Ballesdens has built up a very large and valuable private library over the years, which in its time was hardly matched.

In 1648 the Académie française elected him to succeed the late Claude de Malleville ( Fauteuil 8 ). He was followed in 1675 by the philosopher Géraud de Cordemoy in this place.

At around 80 years of age, Jean Ballesdens died in Paris in 1675, where he found his final resting place.
